1 Overview

FRAS 2.0 (Facial Recognition Attendance System) is the official mobile application developed by the Directorate of e-Governance / Tamil Nadu e-Governance Agency (TNeGA), under the Information Technology and Digital Services Department, Government of Tamil Nadu.

This application is designed to capture and record attendance of government department officials, institutional faculties, and students using facial recognition technology.

This Privacy Policy explains how TNeGA collects, uses, stores, and protects information obtained through the FRAS 2.0 application. By using this application, you consent to the data practices described in this policy. This application is intended for use only by authorised government personnel, faculty, and students enrolled under participating institutions.

2 Information We Collect

To provide the attendance recording functionality, FRAS 2.0 may collect the following categories of information:

Note on Data Declaration (Google Play): As declared on Google Play, FRAS 2.0 does not collect personal data beyond what is functionally required for attendance marking, and no data is shared with third parties. All data transmitted is encrypted in transit.

3 How We Use Information

Information collected through the application is used exclusively for the following purposes:

Your information will not be used for advertising, profiling, or any commercial purpose.

4 Data Sharing

TNeGA does not sell, rent, or trade your personal information. Data may be shared only in the following limited circumstances:

No attendance data or biometric data is shared with any commercial third party.

5 Data Security

We take the security of your personal and biometric data seriously. The following measures are in place:

While we apply reasonable safeguards, no electronic transmission or storage system is guaranteed to be 100% secure. We are committed to continuously improving our security practices.

6 Data Retention

Attendance records are retained for the duration required by applicable government policies and regulations governing service records, institutional records, or academic records. As declared on Google Play, data collected through FRAS 2.0 cannot be deleted by the user, as records are official government attendance logs maintained per statutory requirements.

Requests for correction of attendance records (in case of errors) must be submitted through the appropriate institutional or departmental channels.

7 App Permissions

FRAS 2.0 requests the following device permissions to operate:

Camera
Facial recognition & attendance capture
Location
Geo-tagging to verify attendance location
Internet
Sync attendance records with central server
Storage
Temporary caching of attendance data

These permissions are strictly necessary for the core functionality of the application. Denying any of these permissions may prevent the application from working correctly.

8 Children's Privacy

FRAS 2.0 is rated for users aged 3 and above on Google Play; however, its actual use is limited to authorised government employees, institutional faculty, and students who are enrolled in participating academic institutions. The application is used in supervised institutional environments.

For minor students whose attendance is recorded, the data is collected and processed with institutional authorisation under applicable government policies. Parents or guardians with concerns may contact the respective institution's administration.

9 Your Rights

As a user of FRAS 2.0, you have the following rights with respect to your data:

Given that attendance data constitutes official government records, deletion of such records by the user is not permitted under applicable regulations.

10 Changes to This Policy

TNeGA reserves the right to update or modify this Privacy Policy at any time. Changes will be reflected by updating the effective date at the top of this document and, where appropriate, communicated through the application or official channels.

Continued use of the FRAS 2.0 application after changes to this policy are published constitutes your acceptance of the revised policy. We encourage users to review this policy periodically.
